A fan at an MLS game took to social media to share footage of himself being kicked out of the stadium by police because of his MAGA hat. In the video, the man identifies himself as Michael Weitzel, and says, "I have been asked to leave because of the Donald Trump hat."
The incident occurred at a St. Luis SC game, and members of the security team escorting Weitzel out can be heard saying "they're non-political here...they don't want any kind of political messaging."
There are written rules that clearly prohibit political banners, but nothing is said about attire. Christian Collins, founder of the Texas Youth Summit called this out, saying, "On their website it doesn't specify that there's anything wrong with wearing a political hat. It only says something about political banners."
Collins went on to say that the hat "is not hurting anyone," and there's no real reason why it shouldn't be allowed. Collins also pointed out that despite their claims of being a-political, their social media is rife with support for LGBT events and messaging, including footage of LGBT banners at their stadium.
Collins says those are widely viewed as political, and them being allowed while a simple MAGA hat isn't seems to be rather hypocritical.
He added that this is part of a disturbing trend of anti-conservative bias that needs to be reversed, saying "We've got to get to the place where there's civic discourse and politeness, and decorum in how we treat people. Even people that disagree with us."
