As Texas Republicans continue to work toward eliminating racially gerrymandered districts here, Democrats like Gavin Newsom in California are pushing back, threatening to further gerrymander their states if the new Texas map is passed.
Republicans have responded by calling out how heavily gerrymandered blue states already are, pointing out specific examples in both California and Illinois, where the congressional maps heavily favor Democratic candidates.
Former California congressional candidate and Los Angeles County GOP Executive Board member Steve Williams is calling this out, saying, "If they were to further gerrymander California, are they asking for zero representation for Republicans in Congress? How fair is that?"
He says this is part of a go-to strategy for Democrats, wherein they set up double standards and then hope their constituents don't catch on. Williams explained that, "They feel that the voters are either so apathetic or just not tuned in to what's going on, that they feel like they can just do whatever they please."
Williams then said that he predicts this whole debacle will wind up coming back to hurt Democrats because the voters will notice the double standard. According to him, "There will be blowback from the voters, as they see that, more and more, the one-party rule in California is not serving their interests."
