UNDERWAY: Joint Committee Hearing On Kerrville Flooding

Lawmakers from both the Texas House and Senate are meeting today in Kerrville as part of the join Select Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding.

Their goal is to hear testimony about flood preparation, and the aftermath of the deadly July 4th flooding that killed over 130 people across multiple counties.

The Mayor of Kerrville has testified, warning lawmakers that the Guadalupe river "will flood again."

In regards to recover efforts, he told the committee, "We are grieving. We are shaken. But we are not broken....my main purpose today is to join Lt. Governor Patrick in calling for a flood warning system to be designed and installed in Kerr County before next summer."

Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick also spoke, blasting Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly for not being at the emergency operation center on July 4th, saying, "you where no where to be found."
