Tesla, Samsung Select Texas Town As New Hub For AI Chip Manufacturing

Texas has continued its growth in recent years, thanks in large part to big companies like Tesla and others moving operations to the Lone Star State. Artificial Intelligence has especially become a key focus, as it begins developing. In another long string of wins, Texas got another this week. Tesla has signed a $16.5 billion deal with Samsung to manufacture new AI6 chips right in Taylor, Texas.

The chips are considered the brains behind Tesla's next-generation autonomous vehicles. That usually is a job doled out to South Korea, or Taiwan. Instead, the companies are investing here at home, opening up new opportunities for Texans, and the state as a whole.

KTRH High Tech Texan Michael Garfield says this is a huge deal for the state, especially as AI continued exploding in growth.

"It is a multi-billion-dollar investment that is going to keep a lot of money and a lot of jobs right here in Texas," he says.

This is big not just for Texas. It is a positive sign for American growth. We are no longer outsourcing technology needs to other countries. We are doing as President Trump promised in his campaign, building at home.

But as the Texas population continues to grow, more jobs will be needed. This provides that, and then some, maybe even opening other doors down the road.

"There is a lot of room here...I think people are realizing...maybe we should open our eyes into expanding other businesses into our wonderful state," says Garfield.

It signals that Texas is the leader for technology now, outpacing the once-famed Silicon Valley, which people are leaving in droves.

Plus, it helps keep Texas relevant in the ever-changing world of modern technological advancement. It is just one of many wins the state is gathering, and one of many avenues that is opening up for an economic explosion.

"The state is gaining relevance in a number of categories...technology, obviously...but also the film industry being given some tax breaks...so, it is great to see that Texas continues to grow," Garfield says.

Texas continues to stack up wins, and the latest will help keep the Lone Star State at the forefront of technology for years to come.
