Paxton Files NY Lawsuit to Make Doctor Pay for Abortion

The attorney general of Texas is filing a legal petition in New York aimed at forcing an acting federal judge to follow through on a court judgment against a doctor, referred to as "a pro-abortion extremist.,"

AG Ken Paxton, on behalf of the state of Texas, won a suit against New York-licensed Dr. Margaret Carpenter, who was to pay $100,000 in civil penalties as a result of a North Texas hearing at which the doctor did not appear, awarding the AG's office a default judgment.

But acting Ulster County Clerk Taylor Bruck, who has responsibility to file the results of the lawsuit, has twice refused to file the legal judgment with the State of New York, based on a law that shields doctors in the Empire State from legal actions brought in other states.

Dr. Carpenter was accused by the attorney general's office of prescribing a drug that induces abortion.

The AG's office said the doctor prescribed drugs that ended the life of the unborn child but resulted in medical complications for the mother.
