Legislators to Meet With Flood Victims

A committee from the Texas Legislature is expected to visit the Hill Country this week to hear stories about residents' personal devastation in the July 4th floods.

The Legislature is in special session for the next 24 days with a number of assignments, but one of the most important, according to Governor Greg Abbott, is the search for ways to prevent future disasters such the flooding that destroyed and killed in the Kerr County area near the City of Kerrville.

The group of legislators is also expected this Thursday to discuss ways in which the state can help get Hill Country victims back on their feet.

Nine state representatives, including six Republicans and three Democrats, were chosen by the Speaker of the Texas House to serve on the joint Disaster Preparedness and Flooding committee.

Reps. Ken King (R-Canadian), will be the committee’s chair and Armando Martinez (D-Weslaco), will serve as vice-chair.

The panel includes Republicans Reps. Greg Bonnen of Friendswood, Drew Darby of San Angelo, AJ Louderback of Victoria, Wes Virdell of Brady and Terry Wilson of Georgetown, along with Democrats Ann Johnson of Houston and Joe Moody of El Paso.
