Coming soon: “Alligator Alcatraz Two,” and more.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is planning to work with the states to build new detention centers to house illegal aliens, like the one in the Florida Everglades dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz.”
The Trump Administration is offering $608 million for states willing to expand their ability to hold illegals and already five states are in discussions to talk about building such facilities of their own. The projects would be paid for through a new Detention Support Grant Program. The Alligator Alcatraz temporary detention site can hold up to three thousand illegal aliens. It was built on the site of an old airport in eight days and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says it can become a blueprint for other states to help with holding and processing illegals.
The new program is meant to fast track construction of detention sites on state or local land and avoid normal time consuming red tape.
As of last month, ICE reported it was holding more than 56,000 illegal aliens. That’s the most since 2019.
