Texas Democrats are once again hinting that they will indeed skip town in order to deny the legislature a quorum and block GOP priority legislation from being passed during the special session.
Missouri City Democrat Ron Reynolds has already hinted that he was considering the option in a post to his X page last Thursday. The post read in part, "I am ready, willing, and able to get into good trouble by breaking quorum when justice is on the line."
Congressman Greg Casar (D-Austin) has also suggested that the Democrats use every tactic from filibustering to "firing people up at rallies" to block GOP priorities like redistricting.
Resistance to redistricting is driven primarily by the Democrats' fear of five new GOP seats in the state. This follows a ruling by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals that majority-minority congressional seats were unconstitutional.
Republicans argue that congressional seats should be drawn based on political interest rather than the skin color of the constituents.
