A Houston-area man who says he "just got worked up" is cooperating with investigators after being arrested for angrily threatening to assault and murder Texas' senior US Senator John Cornyn.
The Montgomery County man was arrested Tuesday morning by FBI agents after being interviewed last week about a call he made July 3rd in which he said on Sen. Cornyn's office voicemail that "You....are killing Texans, you’re killing people, I’m gonna kill you," according to officials, who said the caller, Andrew David Sikes, doesn't deny the threat but was angry about "pretty much everything... pretty much the whole nine yards, tariffs, trade... just got worked up."
Mr. Sike said he has had no intention of harming Sen. Cornyn.
The FBI said Mr. Sikes told agents that he admits making the call and to owning a handgun.
Our TV partner KPRC Channel 2 Houston reports the official charges against him are "threatening to assault and murder a United States official, with intent to impede, intimidate, and interfere with such official while engaged in the performance of official duties."
Sikes may have called other elected representatives, both federal and state, according to FBI records.
