Search and recovery efforts in the Hill Country are preparing to enter their second week, following heavy rains in the area over the weekend.

So far, as many as 132 people have been confirmed killed by the Independence Day storms, and as many as 170 could still be missing.

Search efforts had to be abruptly paused over the weekend, due to heavy rainfall in the area raising concerns about more flash flooding.

Governor Abbott announced yesterday that rescues had occurred in San Saba, Lampasas, and Schleicher counties, and there had been evacuations in others.

As of 9:00 a.m. this morning, evacuations were also under way in Uvalde County, ahead of expected flooding. Rains are causing the Frio River to crest, and it could rise as much as 16 feet.
