Superwoke: Director Says New Superman Film "About Politics'

Just when it appeared Hollywood may be warming to traditional Americans and Trump supporters, it has gone back to its woke ways. The latest example is the new Superman reboot. Director James Gunn caused a stir days ahead of the film's highly-anticipated opening last week when he told an interviewer that the film will portray Superman as "an immigrant that came from other places" and that it will definitely be "about politics." Then his brother, actor Sean Gunn--who also stars in the film--doubled down later in the week, telling reporters, "Yes, Superman is an immigrant, and yes the people we support in this country are immigrants, if you don't like that then you are not American."

Those comments were ill-advised and ill-timed, according to KTRH's Clay Travis, who explained in a new video why this is likely to dent the box office appeal of what could have been the biggest film of the summer. "When a studio gives you hundreds of millions of dollars to make a movie, or millions of dollars to star in a movie, the absolute least you can do is try to appeal to the largest possible audience," says Travis. "Ultimately, why are you trying to make a movie like Superman unless you aspire to have the biggest possible audience for it?"

Perhaps James Gunn (or the studio) sensed the backlash because he tried to walk back the comments a few days later, telling a reporter the movie is "for everyone" and is really just about "basic human kindness."

But that's not enough for Travis and many other conservatives who see the woke writing on the wall. "I'm not going to go watch (the movie)," says Travis. "I would have gone and watched it if I hadn't seen that quote."

"Maybe there's not very many people that are like me," he continues. "But I definitely know there's not people who are going to watch it now because (Gunn) said it's super political and it has to do with immigration. He hasn't gained any audience at all, and I think he's probably lost some."
