Even though president Trump is back in office, the IRS still has a problem with targeting conservatives.
And one Texas based conservative group is taking the IRS to court.
"This litigation actually started in 2014, we are 11 years into this, still fighting it" said Chris Gober, attorney representing the Texas based group 'Freedom Path', "We're focused on stopping the targeting and the politicization of non-profits, but doing so by changing the underlying standard."
Basically, the IRS is still using what is called the multifactor "facts and circumstances" test, which can used to decide whether or not a non-profit group can receive tax-exempt status, based on political ideology. Something that started with former IRS official Lois Lerner under the Obama administration.
"Lois Lerner and the Obama administration are long behind us, but the IRS still has the exact same rules in place that they did back then, that allowed them to target conservative organizations to begin with" Gober told KTRH, "That's what we're trying to change."
It's a landmark case, that will hopefully stop the silencing of 'free speech' for conservatives.
