President Trump celebrated July 4th by signing the One, Big, Beautiful Bill into law.
The agenda setting package passed in the House Thursday by a 218-214 vote, with two Republicans voting against the package. No Democrat voted for the bill. The vote was held up by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who spoke on the floor of the House for almost nine hours.
President Trump and GOP leadership had long said that getting the package signed by July 4th was their goal. The left and the mainstream media both said it wouldn't happen. But they were wrong, as they have been countless times since 2015, when Trump entered politics.
Among the things contained in the Big, Beautiful Bill:
- Border security
- No tax on tips
- The largest middle class tax cut in history (the result of making Trump's 2017 tax cuts permanent).
The state of Texas stands to get the $11B spent on Operation Lone Star paid back under the new law. Plus, the package requires that the Space Shuttle Discovery be moved from the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum in DC to Houston.
