Legendary televangelist Jimmy Swaggart, who rose to fame in the 1980s, has passed away at the age of 90.

His death was announced by Jimmy Swaggart Ministries in Baton Rouge, LA, and follows a heart attack last month.

At the peak of his popularity, Jimmy Swaggart Worldwide Ministries appeared on television in over 140 countries and generated nearly half a million dollars a day in donations and sales revenue.

Swaggart did face his fair share of controversy, however. In 1988, Swaggart was suspended from preaching for a year following an affair with a prostitute being uncovered.

He addressed the incident in a 1988 sermon, where he spoke to his wife, saying, “Oh, I have sinned against you, and I beg your forgiveness.”
