The Trump Administration announced today that they're filing a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles, California. The Administration is alleging that the city's sanctuary city policies are interfering with federal authorities, primarily ICE.
Attorney Pam Bondi spoke with Fox News about the lawsuit, saying, "Jurisdictions like Los Angeles that flout federal law by prioritizing undocumented immigrants over American citizens are undermining law enforcement at every level. It ends under President Trump."
Bondi also blamed these sanctuary policies for the unrest that we have seen across the city in recent weeks, with anti-ICE protesters frequently breaking into violent riots and clashing with federal authorities.
According to the Department of Justice lawsuit, the Los Angeles policies discriminate against federal law enforcement agencies like ICE, and the lawsuit requests a federal judge to block enforcement of the policies.
The lawsuit, which was filed today, reads in part, "The Supremacy Clause prohibits the City of Los Angeles and its officials from singling out the federal government for adverse treatment, as the challenged law and policies do, thereby discriminating against the federal government. Accordingly, the law and policies challenged here are invalid and should be enjoined."
