Poll Shows Republicans with Far More American Pride

"Proud to be an American" is becoming a controversial statement if you go by the latest Gallup poll, which indicates Republicans have far more pride in their county than do Democrats, younger generations appear to be less patriotic and the number of people who are really proud of their country keeps dipping.

The survey shows 92% of Republicans asked said they are "extremely" or "very" proud of their country, while only 36% of Democrats say the same.

As an indication of the partisan element in the Democrat's view, more than half (53%) of Independents share that kind of pride with Republicans.

The reason one portion of partisan Democrats may have less pride in their country is simply because Democrats no longer dominate national politics the way they did a year ago.

The poll also indicates an overall slide in pride, with only 58% of adults overall saying they're "extremely" or "very" proud of the USA.

And when it comes to Gen Z, people born between 1997 and 2012, only about 40% say they have that kind of pride.

The number among Millennials -- born between 1980 and 1996 -- is about 69%, indicating that each succeeding generation is less patriotic than the preceding generation.
