About 40% of this Age Group Uses AI for Breakup Texts

A growing number of young adults are calling on artificial intelligence to write their "It's not you, it's me" texts to break up with their significant others.

A national poll shows about 40% of Gen Z is calling on AI to say goodbye, with women slightly more likely to use it than men.

It may sound like they're being lazy, but relational trainer Julie Nise says she's not surprised, because "breaking up by text has been going on for quite a while."

And using AI "is just the logical extension of what's been going on for a while, and this is what goes on when 'kids' are given way too much face time with screens.

She adds, "the more people are communicating with these devices instead of each other, their social skills plummet, they become emotionally retarded because they're not interacting with other human beings that gives them the skill set to become successful."

What skills does Julie say these young adults -- and really everyone -- need?

"Number one, empathy. Number two, be in rapport. Number three, communicate, be effective in your communication -- which is, first of all, to understand that the real intention of your communication is not what you think or intended or meant to say, it's only in the response that you got back.

"That takes observational skills, using your eyeballs to look at people, not screens."
