Those high speed, same-day, deliveries from Amazon could soon be available even to customers in rural areas.
The company says it’s planning to dramatically expand its delivery networks with a $4 billion investment to expand same-day delivery with an emphasis on rural communities
“Amazon is a logistics company,” declared High Tech Texan Michael Garfield. “They want to get products to their destination as quickly as possible. Nowadays, it’s about speed. Customers want speed. They want things immediately, and that’s why they’re expanding their same-day service.”
Amazon says it plans to add more than 200 “last mile” delivery stations by the end of next year.
That would involve more than 100,000 new jobs and Amazon predicts it would open the door to deliver more than a billion additional packeges to more than 13,000 zip codes.
Garfield says the simple convenience the initiative offers could end up having significant impact on some communities and encourage people to move to the country.
“When you think about it, =there may not be a grocery store within 2, 3, 5 or even 10 miles,” he said. “The fact is, now, a delivery service is going to deliver these things on a same-day, within-hours basis. This could actually expand people the numbers of people moving away from the city, out to the rural areas.”
