According to a new report released by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Biden border crisis cost states billions of dollars. And that of course includes, here in Texas.
"It was costing Texas taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars early on the crisis, in 2021 and 2022" said Jessica Vaughan with the Center for Immigration Studies.
Thanks to Governor Abbott, Texas stepped up with Operation Lone Star. But that cost Texas taxpayers billions, which is why the state is seeking $11.1 billion in reimbursements. But as for the overall cost?
"The direct costs of this surge of illegal immigration under Biden cost taxpayers $9.2 billion" Vaughan told KTRH, "And that's just state and local taxpayers, $9.2 billion in 2023 alone." That was just one year.
Right now, there is currently $12 billion allotted to give back to states in Trump's 'Big, beautiful bill'. We'll have to wait and see how much of that will be sent here to Texas.
