Texas state Senator Joan Huffman is running for the job of state attorney general, to replace Ken Paxton, who in April announced his campaign for John Cornyn's US Senate seat.
Senator Huffman is a native Texan from the Houston suburb of Southside Place, who serves as the Houston-based senator for District 17, which extends from Port O'Connor up the Texas coast to include Katy, West Houston, Wharton and Edna.
Ms. Huffman is running to replace Mr. Paxton, who announced on Fox News Channel April 8th that he wants to replace Cornyn, who's held the job as US Senator since 2002, before which Cornyn too was Texas attorney general.
The senator is a JD graduate of Houston's South Texas School of Law who's been elected five times to her state Senate seat, first elected in 2008 -- and previously was twice elected Judge to the 183rd Criminal District Court in Harris County.
Huffman said Monday, “I will be elected attorney general because I am the best-qualified, most experienced candidate who understands the intricacies of every function of state government."
Also running for attorney general is State Senator Mayes Middleton, a conservative Republican from Galveston.
