Some members of Congress continue to be outraged at President Trump following Saturday's attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. Is there any chance they'll take their anger out on the Big Beautiful Bill (BBB), a major legislative proposal? The legislation has already faced backlash from Republicans like Rep. Thomas Massie and Sen. Rand Paul.
Unfortunately for them, there isn't really much they will be able to use the attacks on Iran as an excuse to stop the BBB. That's because, according to Chris Johnson, President of the American Energy Leadership Institute, they've already shown their hand.
He explained, "Many of them are already opposed to the bill, and you can't oppose the bill more strongly. This is a group of people that overlap pretty neatly with the opposition."
He went on to say that even those who would vote against it just because of the Iran nuclear attack wouldn't have much ground to stand on. According to Johnson, "The bigger fights are still around various kinds of shifts in entitlement spending, benefits, Medicare, SNAP, those kinds of things." So anyone seeking to limit President Trump's foreign policy power wouldn't be able to do it in the BBB.
Instead, Johnson predicts that over the coming weeks, as the situation in Iran stabilizes, any anger that various members of Congress and the GOP have against President Trump will subside.
This prediction gained credibility last night after President Trump announced on Truth Social that the governments of both Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire, which, according to Vice President J.D. Vance, should begin sometime today.
