A Georgia man is facing federal charges after allegedly threatening U.S. Senator Ted Cruz with sexual violence. Prosecutors say 25-year-old Robert Davis Forney left two graphic voicemails at Cruz’s office on January 9, then targeted Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer the next day with a similar message.

A federal grand jury indicted Forney last week on charges of communicating threats in interstate commerce.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative focused on curbing violent crime, illegal immigration, and cartel activity. The FBI and U.S. Capitol Police are leading the investigation, calling the threats a serious danger to public officials.

Senator Cruz has not publicly commented, but federal officials say attacks on elected leaders won’t be tolerated.
