A massive manhunt ended Sunday with the capture of 57-year-old Vance Boelter, the man accused of targeting and shooting Minnesota lawmakers in a politically motivated attack. Boelter was spotted on a trail near Green Isle and taken into custody without incident, though he was armed at the time.
Boelter is charged with killing Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, and critically injuring Senator John Hoffman and his wife during separate home invasions. Surveillance footage showed him dressed in tactical gear, and impersonating law enforcement to gain entry before opening fire. Investigators recovered a hit list of public officials from his vehicle.
Authorities called it the largest manhunt in state history, involving hundreds of officers and more than 20 SWAT teams.
