A commonly shared definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result. Texas Democrats could be accused of that for their attempts to flip the state blue. After more than a decade of fruitless efforts, they're going to try again. This time, they've launched a multimillion dollar campaign called "Blue Texas." The effort is backed by left-wing billionaire George Soros, whose Texas Majority PAC has spent (flushed) millions on similar campaigns in recent years, but to no avail.
The goal of Blue Texas is to organize volunteers, recruit candidates and boost voter turnout for 2026, with a stated goal of making Texas a battleground state by 2032, after the next Congressional redistricting will take place.
Texas Republicans are not losing any sleep over this. "We're not worried about it at all," says Abraham George, Texas GOP Chair. "Last year they spent millions, and (Trump) won by 14 points, we flipped 12 counties in South Texas, and had 1.1 million new voters on our side."
"So I don't think it's the money that's winning our elections, it's the right messaging and the right candidates."
Indeed, last year Democrats dumped tens of millions into Colin Allred's failed Senate campaign, only to see him lose by nine points. Soros even poured millions specifically into South Texas counties, most of which were won by Republicans anyway.
"I don't see where five million, 10 million, or 20 million dollars is going to make any difference, because Texans are not buying this radical Democrat ideology, not anymore, " says George. "Even the moderate Democrats who used to be conservative Democrats, they're all flipping and becoming Republicans."
