Matter of Trust: Critics Say Musk Was Never MAGA

The recent public feud between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk has some members of the MAGA movement saying 'told you so." At the top of that list is Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow, who discussed the Trump-Musk breakup on the latest "Alex Marlow Show" podcast. "All of us at Breitbart are I think feeling very vindicated today," said Marlow as he opened the show. He referred to the Breitbart staff as "resident Elon Musk skeptics."

Marlowe noted that Musk has always held positions that go against the Trump agenda, like being pro-China, supporting the expansion of H-1b work visas for immigrants, and supporting federal EV subsidies and mandates. "This is the sort of thing that always made us very skeptical of Musk," said Marlow. "He is not an America First nationalist, he's not. He's someone who is very wealthy, very charismatic, does a lot of impressive things. But overall, my thesis about Musk has always been...that his real virtue is as a P.T. Barnum type character."

For his part, Musk seems to have softened on his feud with Trump. He deleted an incendiary post accusing Trump of being named in the Jeffrey Epstein files, and over the weekend Musk shared posts from Trump and Vice President JD Vance discussing their crackdown on anti-ICE protesters in Los Angeles, including American flag emojis below them.

Marlow made it clear he believes Musk has done positive things like DOGE, and was a boon to Trump's campaign last year. "I don't think he singlehandedly helped Donald Trump get elected, but I think he seemed genuinely committed to Trump's vision for America relative to the Democrats," said Marlow. "I think (Musk) is a free speech guy, I don't think he likes the trans stuff...and maybe he was smart enough to see that Trump was inevitable, and maybe he saw a better future for his companies if he got along with Trump."

"But overall, Musk is not a guy to be trusted."
