First Hurricane of the Season Forms

The first hurricane of the 2025 season has formed in the Pacific Ocean but it's not expected to have any effect on Texas weather.

A second storm is also being watched by the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, as it grows about 152 miles southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico.

Perhaps more significant to the US, though, is Tropical Storm Cosme as it grows into what could be the second 2025 hurricane. It's being tracked a few hundred miles to the west of Hurricane Barbara, with Cosme at midday Monday located about 630 miles (1,015 kilometers) south-southwest of Baja California, with little threat to land expected.

Both storms are expected to intensify into the evening Monday, though Barbara is likely to decrease in size and intensity overnight and the second storm, Cosme, is expected to become a hurricane before midnight, then start to dissipate as Tuesday moves along, according to the Hurricane Center.

Hurricane season began June 1st, and so far there have been no threatening storms in the Atlantic Ocean, therefore no threats to Texas or the Gulf Coast.

The first hurricane of the Atlantic season will be named Andrea.
