We are keeping a close eye on a developing weather system which will impact the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Forecasters are predicting the possibility of tornados and large hail, as well as damaging winds of up to 100 miles per hour.
The Weather Channel predicts we could see this system pick up late Sunday night into Monday morning.
Texas Meteorologist Jeff Lindner wrote on Facebook:
”Significant convective wind event increasing likely over the Red River Valley into DFW metro area tonight. Widespread wind damage and extends power outages will be possible. SPC has included a level 4 out of 5 severe weather risk for parts of N TX and S OK for tonight for a widespread damaging wind event…possible derecho. Damaging winds of 60-80mph is likely with isolated corridors of winds of 90-100mph. Large hail will also be possible and wind driven hail with these expected winds can be particularly damaging.”
To prepare, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that he directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate additional state emergency response resources ahead of increased threats of severe weather and flooding expected to impact the state over the next several days.
