Mystery Science Theater: WaPo Confused by Drop in Drug Seizures

The legacy media appears to have "Trump blinders" on when it comes to the southern border. Even as illegal border crossings plummet amidst heightened border enforcement, reporters still can't seem to connect the dots. The Washington Post recently ran an article on the sharp decline in fentanyl seizures at the southern border, calling it "mysterious" and blaming "complicated" factors. That drew resounding mockery from many quarters, including the White House. White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Breitbart News, "The drop in fentanyl seizures at the border is only a mystery to reporters suffering from Trump-Derangement Syndrome."

The Department of Homeland Security also responded to the Post on X, saying, "It's no mystery. On day one, Trump closed our borders to drug traffickers."

Whether Trump-Derangement Syndrome, willful ignorance, or outright stupidity, the Post seems to be going out of its way to NOT credit Trump. "They're trying to say it's a mystery, and trying to give credit anyplace else," says Nick Fondacaro, associate editor with Newsbusters at the Media Research Center. "In some cases they give China the credit for cracking down on the precursor (fentanyl) chemicals, or in some cases they give credit to the cartels, saying they're too busy fighting each other to try to make these journeys across the border."

"What we're really seeing is the (cartels) waiting and not coming across because Border Patrol is now able to fully man border crossings and checkpoints," he continues.

This is just the latest embarrassment for the legacy media. "(The Washington Post) has the pompous tagline of 'Democracy Dies in Darkness,'" says Fondacaro. "If they can't figure out why seizures and border crossings of illegal drugs are down, then they are truly in the dark on this one."
