Texas House Votes Down Bail Reform Bill That Denies Bail For Illegal Aliens

The Texas House on Wednesday night, the final evening of the session, overwhelmingly voted down Senate Joint Resolution One, part of Governor Greg Abbott's bail reform package.

The bill would have denied bond to illegal aliens accused of violent crimes, like murder. The final vote was 87-39 against, with four Democrats taking no stance, and marking present.

It is part of the overarching bail reform package that Governor Abbott has been pushing and has said he would call a special session if it were not passed. He has not commented as of Wednesday evening on if he plans to do so.

The bill needed 100 votes to pass and make it as a constitutional amendment on the ballot. It was proposed in the wake 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray's murder by two illegal aliens in Houston last year.
