Texans will get a break on water efficient items from Saturday through Monday. In fact, the state estimates this weekend's holiday will save shoppers some $15.2 million in state and local sales taxes/
The water-efficient products holiday covers items bearing a WaterSense label or logo for personal or business use, including showerheads, faucets, toilets, urinals and landscape irrigation controls. Qualifying residential lawn and garden products include soaker hoses, moisture controls, mulch, plants, trees and grasses designed to conserve water outdoors.
The ENERGY STAR holiday applies to energy-efficient products displaying the ENERGY STAR logo. Qualifying items include air conditioners priced at $6,000 or less, refrigerators priced at $2,000 or less, ceiling fans, fluorescent light bulbs, dishwashers, dehumidifiers and clothes washers.
The following products qualify for the holiday:
- A soaker or drip-irrigation hose
- A moisture control for a sprinkler or irrigation system
- Mulch
- A rain barrel or an alternative rain and moisture collection system
- A permeable ground cover surface that allows water to reach underground basins, aquifers or water collection points
- Plants, trees and grasses
- Water-saving surfactants
- Soil and compost
The following products do not qualify for the holiday:
- Construction/building materials
- Awnings and other items used to create shade
- Air conditioners*
- Ceiling fans*
- Sprinklers
