It Is Time To Roll The Dice On Primarying RINO's For True Conservatives

The phenomenon of Republicans in Name Only (RINO's) have been plaguing the party for multiple years. Spread throughout the GOP are various lawmakers who will run to cozy up with Democrats on certain issues, in the name of 'maintaining partisan politics.' In reality, they are just not true conservatives preventing true change from being performed.

One of them is in Texas and is Senator John Cornyn. In recent years especially, Cornyn has taken less and less Republican-like actions, and felt more like a wolf in sheep's clothing. He has been somewhat with Trump but still takes stances on Ukraine funding that people have just grown sick of hearing.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has since announced a run for Cornyn's seat next year, which is risky. Cornyn has held the seat for almost three decades and beating him will be no easy feat. But it shows the time is now to roll the dice, and primary out at least one RINO on the hill.

Columnist and former Army Colonel Kurt Schlicter says sometimes you have to play the risk to reap the rewards.

"I think this is one of those times, especially with John Cornyn...he is good enough, but that is not good enough," he says.

It is not just Ukraine funding that has been a stain for Cornyn. He has also crossed the aisle and sided with Democrats on various gun control measures. Which, to put it lightly, is not looked favorably upon in Texas. Considering how crazy Democrats have become lately too, it is not the time to be a hero and participate in partisan politics for the sake of appeasing everyone.

We need action, and people with a backbone to sit in power. Paxton definitely fits that bill, having sued the Biden Administration numerous times, and defied them to take action to protect the Texas border. He represents the new era of Republican, something Cornyn is not.

"Cornyn is a Bush-era Republican, and those guys are on the way out," says Schlicter. "We are tired of them. They have failed, and he has failed."

Sometimes you have to turn the house on its head. If you do not like the deck, turn over the table. That is what has needed to happen for the last decade or so, and finally, it seems to be happening.

Again, it is not a sure thing for Paxton. He has his own baggage, which included an impeachment trial last year. But on the flip side as well, Democrats have no real answer. Which makes the risk a little lower in trying to primary Paxton. If he succeeds, there is a hardline conservative in the Senate. If he fails, then Cornyn will retain the seat because there is no real opponent.

"What are they going to do, three-time loser Beto? I do not see a great opponent who can cross over, and make people think 'well he is not so bad,'" says Schlicter. "I think they will stick with Paxton...that is why it is time to take a risk and roll those dice."

The time has come to take the risk and try to get more pro-Trump conservatives on Capitol Hill. The risk is more than worth the reward.
