The Big Beautiful Bill Passes a Sunday Night Vote

President Trump’s sweeping “Big Beautiful Bill” took a key step forward Sunday night, advancing out of the House Budget Committee by a 17-16 vote after days of Republican infighting.

The bill had stalled Friday when four conservative members of the House Freedom Caucus blocked it, demanding stricter Medicaid work requirements and rollbacks to green energy subsidies tied to the Inflation Reduction Act.

GOP leaders gave written assurances that those concerns would be addressed, prompting the holdouts to vote “present” and allow the bill to move forward.

The next step is for House leaders to finalize the bill and get it to the Rules Committee for review this week. It could return from the Senate with changes before reaching the President's desk, which is expected by the Fourth of July.
