Following a deadly new drone attack, President Trump declared he will work to stop a “bloodbath” in Ukraine in an upcoming phone call with Russian President Vladmir Putin.
The president says he will speak with Putin on Monday.
In a post on social media, he said the subject will be “STOPPING THE ‘BLOODBATH.’”
Trump has been calling for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine for months.
The situation gained more urgency on Saturday when Ukrainian officials said a Russian drone hit a bus evacuating civilians in Ukraine, killing nine people.
The latest new effort at peace fizzled when Putin first proposed negotiations in Turkey “without preconditions,” then rejected an offer for face to face talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Ahead of Monday’s conversation, Trump posted on Truth Social “HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE A PRODUCTIVE DAY.”
