Even though our Southern border is now finally closed, the government checkbook for illegal aliens here in the U.S. is wide open.
"The total coast to American taxpayers from illegal immigration reached a $150.7 billion" said Ammon Blair, senior fellow with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, and that's just for the year 2023.
There needs to be accountability, and it's time for Texas to follow Florida and keep track of just how many taxpayer dollars are being given to illegals.
"We literally have no idea, and we're all just kind of operating in the blind" Blair told KTRH.
That is why Blair and the TPPF are backing Senate Bill 825, which would create an annual report here in Texas on the impact of all of the costs for illegal aliens.
"This bill would cover how much illegal immigration is actually costing, not just hospital systems but every avenue" noted Blair, "All the costs associated with education and law enforcement."
SB 825 made it out of the senate, and on to the Texas House calendar. The bill must be heard on the floor of the Texas House before May 27th.
