Governor Greg Abbott announced today that Texas has once again set major records for job growth, according to April’s employment data.
According to Abbott and the April numbers, the Texas labor force grew by over 215,000 nonfarm jobs over the last 12 months and added jobs faster than the annual national rate.
Abbott celebrated the news in a press release, saying, "Businesses invest with confidence in Texas thanks to the Best Business Climate in America and our highly skilled and growing workforce. That is why Texas employers have added more than 2.5 million jobs since I became Governor and why more Texans are working than ever before."
Texas also set yet another record for the size of the state’s labor force at 15,814,000. Of that number, a record high 15,171,500 are currently either employed or self-employed. Total nonfarm jobs also set a new record at 14,320,000, after a gain of 37,700 jobs in April.
In the press release, Abbott also touted his recent proclamation of May 12–16 as Economic Development Week and emphasized how important it is for Texas to remain focused on positive business growth.
He said, "We will continue to advance pro-growth economic policies, invest in career training for high-demand occupations, and partner with Texas businesses and innovators to remain the Best State for Business and the best state for good-paying jobs over the next decade and beyond."
