The Texas House of Representatives has passed a "Women's Bill of Rights" that will have as its effect an accurate definition of the words "male" and "female," and will protect female designated sports, spaces and opportunities.
That's the word from Republican state District 19 Representative Ellen Troxclair, the wife, mother and small business owner who sponsored the bill.
She said upon passage Sunday that "For the first time, terms like 'man' and 'woman' in Texas law will have clear definitions -- giving a foundation to our statute, and safeguards to our rights.
"With the passage of the landmark Texas Women's Bill of Rights in the House, girls and women who've lost privacy, safety and opportunity now have real hope of the full protection of law," she said.
The bill, HB 229, has to be passed by the Texas Senate before it can go to the Governor to become law, and there is still time in this legislative session for the bill to do that.
The current session of the Legislature continues until June 2nd.
Ms. Troxclair's House District 19 encompasses Blanco, Burnet, Gillespie, and Kendall counties and portion of Travis County.
