Today is the big day, as the U.S. is set to begin trade and tariff talks with China.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and chief trade negotiator Jamieson Greer are going to meet with Chinese economic tsar He Lifeng in Switzerland.
President Trump said on Friday that an "80% Tariff on China seems right!" adding on his Truth Social that the final number would be up to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Right now, the U.S. has slapped down a 145% tariff on China, and earlier this week Trump said that China was eager to make a deal.
"Scott's going to be going to Switzerland, meeting with China," Trump told reporters at the White House. "And you know, they very much want to make a deal. We can all play games. Who made the first call, who didn't make them? It doesn't matter. Only matters what happens in that room. But I will tell you that China very much wants to make a deal. We'll see how that works out."
The Trump tariffs on China went into effect on April 2nd.
