Washington Post Wins Pulitzer For Downplaying Trump Assassination Attempt

The assassination attempt of then-candidate, and now-President Donald Trump shook up the world like no event has in recent memory. But the media coverage of the event was not at all sympathetic, or even accurate. The Washington Post when breaking the news said at the time Trump was 'taken away after loud noises at rally.' Anyone watching knew it was gunshots, and that there was an assassination attempt. Not to mention, it resulted in the death of firefighter Corey Comperatore, an innocent bystander at the event.

Yet, the liberal outlet framed it as just a simple disturbance. Now for their half-baked coverage of the attempt, the Washington Post has won one of the most coveted awards in journalism, the Pulitzer Prize. For getting the event entirely wrong, they are winning one of the media's most prestigious awards. It is a as befuddling as it is insane.

Brianna Lyman of The Federalist says the downplaying of the incident is the opposite of good journalism, which shows how far left the media, and the Pulitzer, have gone.

"Journalism is supposed to be the first rough draft of history...yet the Pulitzer Prize just gave their stamp of approval to the Washington Post draft of history, which was completely off-beat," she says.

The award was given for their 'live updates file,' which again, downplayed the incident for the first hour. They never have a problem jumping to conclusions when there is any other news story. They are happy to report half-cocked facts when it benefits their own agenda. But with this, they downplayed it like it was nothing.

Yet again, this is not shocking to anyone familiar with American media. They have become a full-blown mouthpiece for the Left, and a way to push their own ideological propaganda.

"That is the slippery slope we see...all these institutions have become puppets for the larger propaganda apparatus that feeds the Democrat machine," says Lyman.

They tried to downplay it because it was a wakeup call for Americans. People finally saw with their own eyes just how objectively insane the Left has become, where one of them attempted killing a Presidential candidate. It ultimately ended up being an event that pushed him over the edge to win in November, too.

It was not just the Washington Post that did this, to be fair. Every single mainstream outlet all basically were guilty of the same things. They all said it was a 'loud noise,' or 'popping noises.' But they steered people away from the truth, something they have become well-seasoned at in the last few decades.

But finally, people have had enough. They are not buying it anymore.

"Media is no longer interested in journalism...they are interested in being ideologically committed to whatever their goal is," Layman says.

It is just one of many examples of the media's collapse into irrelevance. It is also a failure for a once respected Pulitzer Prize. Once a pillar of journalism, the award has now become a trophy for whatever media outlet pushes their agenda best.
