Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced this morning that multiple arrests had been made in an illegal vote harvesting scheme. Among those arrested was Frio County Judge Rochelle Camacho, who is now being charged with three counts of Vote Harvesting.

The arrests follow the execution of multiple criminal search warrants in August 2024. Those searches occurred in Frio, Atascosa, and Bexar counties and were part of a multi-year investigation into allegations of vote harvesting, a practice that is commonplace in some blue states but is illegal in Texas.

Paxton said in a press release that, "The people of Texas deserve fair and honest elections, not backroom deals and political insiders rigging the system. Elected officials who think they can cheat to stay in power will be held accountable."

In addition to Judge Camacho's charges, five other officials were arrested and charged:

  • Former Frio County Elections Administrator Carlos Segura: 1 count of Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence
  • Pearsall City Council Member Ramiro Trevino: 1 count of Vote Harvesting
  • Pearsall City Council Member Racheal Garza: 1 count of Vote Harvesting
  • Pearsall ISD Trustee Adriann Ramirez: 3 counts of Vote Harvesting
  • Alleged Frio County Vote Harvester Rosa Rodriguez: 2 counts of Vote Harvesting

Paxton's office says that the Election Integrity Unit will continue to investigate the case, along with the Frio County District Attorney.
