Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced this morning that he would be taking legal action against Austin Independent School District. He alleged that they’ve violated state law by teaching critical race theory (CRT).

His office has now begun the legal process of deposing both the Superintendent of Austin ISD and the district’s board of trustees, as part of an investigation into whether the district is developing and teaching CRT covertly.

According to a press release, this action is the result of Paxton being made aware that an Austin ISD official made statements implying that they were using curricula and other materials linked to the now-debunked 1619 Project. Those curricula and materials have been barred from use in Texas schools.

Paxton said in the statement, “It’s outrageous that Austin ISD officials think they can ignore state law to put woke indoctrination in Texas classrooms.” He went on to say that he will fully investigate the district’s CRT policies and will work tirelessly to ensure that Texas school officials are helping students and not subjecting them to anti-American ideology.
