Two months after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a big stand in the Oval Office, it appears he has given into President Trump. The United States and Ukraine on Wednesday signed a minerals agreement together, which will give the U.S. access to Ukraine's rare earth minerals.
The deal was originally to be signed two months ago when Zelenskyy visited the White House. Instead, he began making new demands and was promptly thrown out of the White House.
The Administration says this agreement addresses as well the $175 billion in aid sent to Ukraine since the start of the war. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the deal signals to Russia that the White House is committed to peace, and that this is centered around a free, and prosperous Ukraine.
The deal provides the U.S. access to natural resources such as aluminum, graphite, oil, and natural gas.
Ukraine and Russia still have yet to agree to a ceasefire, however, but the White House says talks are continuing.
