As said famously by Bill Murray, "it is Groundhog Day...again." No, it is not actually Groundhog Day. But it seems like it as we hit the 100-day mark of the Donald Trump presidency. Democrats are once again pushing some case for impeachment of President Trump, with one Michigan Congressman introducing articles of impeachment this week. If it sounds familiar, that is because it is.
We went through this in 2017. Democrats threw a fit over Trump's comments at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville. In a video, Trump said there 'are good people on both sides,' and began screaming that Trump supports the KKK. Yet, they leave out the 10 seconds of the clip afterward, where Trump denounced anyone racist at the rally. But the media and everyone has since run with it to make some half-cocked case that Trump is a racist. They filed impeachment proceedings on that, and the Russia collusion hoax, which was proven to be nonsense.
So now, we enter the second Trump presidency in 2025, and here we go again. Democrat leader Chuck Schumer recently said he is not ruling out impeachment proceedings, because Trump is 'violating the rule of law.' The attempt failed miserably in 2017, and you would think they learned a lesson. But alas, that is never the case with the Democrat party.
Political strategist Ashley Smith Thomas says this is once again an effort to throw something at the wall and see if it sticks.
"For what? I mean, what has the President done specifically that warrants an impeachment?" she says.
Democrats claim President Trump is breaking the rule of law by imposing tariffs and deporting illegal aliens. Somehow though, in their cognitive dissonance, they were fine with Barack Obama deporting more people than any President in history. They were also fine with him killing four American citizens in Afghan drone strikes.
While Senator Schumer was not necessarily committal in his impeachment talk, he did not rule it out. Which is part of the strategy on his part. He knows American people are fed up with the lawfare and trumped up (pun intended) charges to try and make impeachment stick. Keep it vague until you have a chance at doing so, which hinges on big Democrat wins the midterms next year.
"What you will see then, is Democrats running forward with articles of impeachment...then you will also see a lame duck session, in terms of the President not being able to fulfill his policy priorities," says Smith Thomas.
That would require them flipping both the House and the Senate, which granted are somewhat slim majorities for Republicans. But that would mean flipping numerous seats, less than two years after receiving a mandate from Americans. People are tired of the transgender for kids' nonsense, they are tired of the government overspending, and they are tired of the Democrat ways.
But again, they never learn their lesson. They will try doing once again what they failed to do in 2017. It is the ultimate definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.
"They are going to have to quickly gain control of their message, and where they are heading," Smith Thomas says. "But I think a lot of this rhetoric pertaining to impeachment of President Trump is going to backfire."
It is once again Groundhog Day for the American political realm. We are living the same thing once again, and it is solely because Democrats despise President Trump. There is no rhyme or reason to any of it. But that is just what you expect now from a crumbling Democrat party.
