The left is once again in outrage mode after Wisconsin judge Hannah Dugan was arrested by federal authorities last week. She’s accused of distracting ICE agents and helping an illegal alien escape from her courtroom before he could be taken into custody.
This is just another example of how, despite their crushing defeat in November, the left still hasn’t learned its lesson. Former judge Cully Stimson said that, “They’re doubling down on their hissy fit, thinking that that’s going to somehow convince the moderates that their hissy fit is some kind of substitute for policy.”
This, of course, follows months of rogue district court judges, who were primarily appointed by Democrats, across the country stepping in to thwart President Trump’s agenda with various national injunctions, many of which are working their way up to the Supreme Court.
On top of all this, another judge in Wisconsin is threatening to boycott the courtroom altogether. Judge Monica Isham sent out an email saying, “If there is no guidance for us and no support for us, I will refuse to hold court in Branch 2 in Sawyer County.”
Stimson pointed out that if Isham does go through with her courtroom boycott, that in and of itself could constitute a violation of the law. He said, “She’s violating the state’s fair labor standards act, which says you can’t be a government employee and also refuse to work.”
So does this mean we can expect a massive judicial uprising going forward? Probably not. Stimson says these radical judges are likely just outliers. According to him, “Becoming a judge is the pinnacle of one’s legal career. They’re not going to throw away their career simply because they have a political difference with the current commander-in-chief.”
