Texas Emergency Supply Tax Free Weekend: What Qualifies?

With hurricane season around the corner, Texans can stock up on emergency supplies tax-free this weekend during the state’s Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday. The tax exemption applies to a wide range of items, including portable generators priced under $3,000, emergency ladders and hurricane shutters under $300, and dozens of smaller essentials under $75

The event runs from 12:01 a.m. Saturday, April 26, through midnight Monday, April 28, and applies to both in-store and online purchases. State officials say the annual tax break helps families prepare for disasters like hurricanes, floods, and wildfires.

Those who mistakenly pay sales tax can request a refund from the seller or file a claim with the state using Form 00-985.
