Democrats have fallen to historic lows in public approval, and a big part of that is what was once one of their most reliable voting blocs...the youth vote. A new Harvard poll finds just 23% of voters under age 30 approve of Democrats in Congress, a notable drop from the same survey in 2020 and 2017. At the same time, 32% of young voters approve of President Donald Trump, which is about the same level as the past surveys.
There are other signs of the youth movement away from Democrats, as well. College campuses are seeing a rise in young Republicans, and President Trump made gains with the youth vote last year, especially among young men. But young people aren't necessarily becoming more conservative, as much as they're rejecting the radical shift of the Democratic party. "This is a mind virus that somehow parasitized the DNC (Democratic National Committee)," says Eric Weinstein, host of The Portal podcast, in a recent interview with Fox News. "You have a leadership organization that will not look outside of its own tiny echo chamber, and you have a lot of self-described educators who appear to not really understand much, if anything, about education."
Weinstein believes Dems' focus on transgender rights and hardcore identity politics has alienated young people and driven them toward Trump and Republicans. "Kids are moving to get out of the way of a mental disease (on the left)," he tells Fox. "There is a series of orders that cannot possibly be followed...for instance, how do you identify as a woman if you can't define what a woman is?"
"As a result, people are appearing to shift to the right because they're trying to get away from this madness."
