The first bill signed by Gov. Greg Abbott in the 89th Legislative Session creates a Texas "DOGE" office.
Gov. Abbott signed the bill into law Wednesday, surrounded by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, House Speaker Dustin Burrows and other state officials.
Senate Bill 14 will create the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office, a nod to Elon Musk's DOGE model at the federal level. The new law will implement regulatory reforms and end judicial deference to state agencies.
Gov. Abbott said this law will also make government more efficient and less costly. He called the regulatory environment in Texas "too burdensome."
"It will slash regulations, it will put stricter standards on new regulations and it will put a check on the growth of the administrative state in Texas," said Gov. Abbott.
Abbott added that "Texas DOGE" will lead to spending cuts and a more user-friendly government.
