One day after she was shot in the side, in a shooting near the Harris County Family Law Center, Harris County Pct. 1 deputy constable Sheila Jones is being released from the hospital.
The shooting, which involved a career criminal who had a lengthy rap sheet of prior convictions, identified as Parnell Bland, 34, happened just after 12:30 p.m. near 1115 Congress Street.
After being chased, he pointed one of his two guns at officers, and an exchange of gunfire led to both Jones and the shooting suspect being struck.
Thankfully, Jones was wearing her bulletproof vest. In addition to being an Army veteran, Jones has worked in law enforcement for over 30 years.
Before coming to work for the Pct. 1 Constable’s Office, she worked for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as a major.
As for the shooting suspect, If convicted, Bland faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
