Trump Says China Is Calling ‘A Lot’ Over Tariffs, But China Is Calling EU

After president Donald Trump said last week that China has been calling "a lot" over tariffs, comes word that China is now looking into interfering with Trump's tariff plan with the EU.

"China's under a lot of pressure" said Josh Birenbaum, deputy director for the Center on Economic and Financial Power at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, "And in order to keep their economy running they need every export market they can get. So we expect them to make some moves."

So basically, in an attempt to push back at Trump, China is hoping they can get through, to the EU.

"EU leaders are under tremendous pressure to their voters, to make sure that they're standing up to the United States" Birenbaum told KTRH. Which is why China believes it may have an opening.

But the U.S. relationship with the EU is even stronger. Now we just have to wait for the deals to get done.

"Whether China will make a move that pulls Europe more into China's orbit instead of the United States is an open question" noted Birenbaum, "The question is, whether or not a deal is possible with the United States. That's something that only Xi Jinping and Donald Trump know."

In the meantime, it's one day at a time with more ups and downs, for the markets.
