Southwest Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing At Hobby After Engine Fire

A scare at Hobby Airport today, after a Southwest Airlines plane had to make an emergency landing after a small engine fire.

According to the Houston Fire Department, the small engine fire forced the plane to circle back shortly after takeoff around 11:30am.

As reported by our tv partner KPRC channel 2, the plane landed safely and came to a stop on the taxiway. The emergency slides were deployed, and passengers were evacuated.

Emergency crews quickly extinguished the fire, and no medical transports were needed. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and everyone on board has been accounted for.

According to the airport’s Public Information Officer, there was no ground stop in place and other flights continued moving as normal.

An investigation is underway into what caused the engine fire.
