People Are Worried About Their Jobs. One Expert Says Here's Why.

Recent political and financial events are causing concern among employees across the nation, who are increasingly concerned about their jobs.

A new report indicates that 81-percent of those polled are worried about the prospect of losing their jobs, with 20-percent of that group feeling "much more worried" about facing unemployment this year, when compared to last year.

According to the survey by My Perfect Resume, the biggest concerns are possible recession (feared by 92-percent of those asked) and an overall increase in layoffs (a deep concern for 76-percent of those asked).

Despite talk for years that the Biden economy was strong, concerns about the years' high inflation and now government layoffs under the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are engendering new worries among working Americans, and employment analyst Brenda Siri says it's for good reason.

"I think people are hopeful that our economy is going to get better but there just feels like there's a lot of uncertainty right now, and it's scaring a lot of people," she says.

These worries are also creating deep uncertainty about changing jobs, coupled with stress over possible economic uncertainties as talk of recession risks grows and 63-percent of those asked say they believe there will be more job layoffs this year than last year.

"Companies are being cautious right now," Ms. Siri says, "we're all in a kind of hold-and-watch pattern, and I think that's adding to the fear that people have today."

Recent news about tariffs and DOGE are said to be causing concern among a number of people about the tens of thousands of government workers who are being dismissed -- who will now be flooding the private job markets with resumes and applications.

And Ms. Siri says tariffs, which some people don't understand, cause concern that we "may be facing price hikes, may be having to do reductions in force, and that could be scaring a lot of people as well."
